"In her first novel, Dzikowski has
created a world complete enough to transport the reader back in time and a spunky protagonist whose emotional journey breaks the heart. Dzikowski’s poignant, engrossing historical novel vividly parallels the last brutal days of segregation with the experiences of a small town girl coming of age in a racist society."

"Some books touch you so profoundly it is with regret you reach the end. Searching for Lincoln’s Ghost is one such book, a reading experience that starts in a cemetery and ends in the same cemetery, but in between I have been treated to a beautiful, heartrending story that will stay with me, I believe, for the rest of my life."  For full review, click here:

SEARCHING FOR LINCOLN'S GHOST

Peppered with Lincoln folklore, Searching for Lincoln's Ghost offers an authentic look at coming of age during the tumultuous 1960s.
Andi Powell thinks about death far too often for an eleven-year-old. After losing both parents in an accident and being raised by a grandmother obsessed with death, Andi is struggling with an unusual quest for a girl her age--to determine whether there is life after death.
It is 1966, and Castalia, Indiana, like most cities of that time, is grappling with social and cultural change. Meanwhile, rumors have long swirled around Castalia's Lincoln Elementary School. Over its long history, the school has produced two sixth graders who claim to have seen Lincoln's ghost in the school's auditorium.
When Andi prays on her dead mother's rosary to be the next sixth grader to encounter Lincoln's ghost as "living" proof of an afterlife, a complex chain of events is set into motion, including the appearance of her first love, John Malone, a new boy at school who harbors an explosive secret, and mysterious moaning emanating from the dark stage after school. While Andi desperately seeks answers to life's most difficult questions, an unlikely new friend emerges--a mystical bait shop owner named Ezra, who seems to have all the answers she's looking for.
Despite substantive themes, Searching for Lincoln's Ghost is a captivating journey that will both delight and pierce the heart.
